Steve James - Blues Roots Guitar - DVD
Fingerpicking and Slide from the Southern Delta to New Orleans. Steve James is known for his deep knowledge of blues guitar styles, and here he teaches learning guitarists five of his favorite arrangements, high-lighting chord theory, licks, tunings, slide technique and other invaluable musical insights. Steve starts with Mance Lipscomb's classic "Sugar Babe", a basic 8-bar blues arrangement with alternating bass, showing how even this fairly simple song can take on a life of it's own. "Wet Laundry Blues" moves to the key of A, and is more typical of the Delta style, with rhythmic feels, walking basses and country blues licks. "Buddy Bolden's Blues" is a classic jazz/blues in C, making use of the "thumb roll" and some funky New Orleans-style chords. Steve's powerful version of Stack Lee's "Blues in Open G" gets you started in bottleneck style, while "Hot Time On The Old Town Tonight", Steve's show-stopper in open D tuning, includes combinations of slid, pulled-off, fretted and open notes, with variations, involving harmonics and rhythmic "banging" the strings. This lesson with a top contemporary blues artist will add many new tricks and some great songs to your guitar repertoire!
