"Jazz
Guitar Improvisation Course"
Dear Advancing Guitarist,
Welcome to the fascinating world of jazz guitar
improvisation! The following course taught by jazz guitar recording artist
Steven Crowell will teach you his one of a kind, truly unique system that has
already turned hundreds of guitarists into fluent, confident jazz improvisers!
His course, which is based on concepts revealed to him by the late jazz guitar
virtuoso Warren Nunes, presents a "new way of thinking" that for the first time
combines scales and arpeggios into one coherent thought! If you want to be able
to improvise long, seamless jazz guitar lines over complex, extended chord
progressions, this is the jazz guitar improvisation course that our customers tell us is their favorite!
"These 9 volumes of "The Jazz Science Series" constitute a Rosetta Stone for
jazz guitar. They make the fretboard completely comprehensible in a new way and
lead the conscientious student from fear and bumbling into confidence and
creativity. There is nothing like this anywhere else in the guitar world!
If
you're lucky enough to start your guitar career with "The 84 Jazz Guitar Equations" you will not have to struggle with the confounding weirdness and
lack of symmetry in other systems."

Steven Crowell - The 84 Jazz Guitar Equations - Book, CD & DVD
*A New Way Of Thinking* This unique book - the 1st of
"The Jazz Science Series" - shows the correlation of arpeggios and scales on the
fingerboard and how they work together as a harmonic family
unit. The "84 Equations" system was developed by Warren Nunes and
Steven Crowell and gives complete linear coverage of the guitar neck crucial for
superior jazz soloing! If you've ever wondered what to play over a III-VI-II-V
chord progression, for instance, you can "equate it" with this
marvelous, comprehensive book. With "The 84 Jazz Guitar Equation's" inclusive fingering
system, you'll never wonder again about what fingering to use. For concentrated
practice, it's one of the best chop-building methods ever devised. Music
notation, tab and chord diagrams are used to show every diatonic scale pattern
in all keys. Three studies - beginning, intermediate, and advanced - are
given for each of the 84 equations and a "Play Along" CD is included with this 90 page book!

Steven Crowell - Jazz Guitar Power Soloing - Book, CD & DVD
This is the 3rd book in "The Jazz Science Series"
and is truly an advanced system for building powerful technique! It is all about
building chops and instilling far-reaching musical concepts. While most players
learn from a "lick-based" disconnected approach, this book gives a cohesive
understanding of the jazz language and its unique application to the guitar. It
contains all new material that brings together and expands on the elements shown
in "The 84 Jazz Guitar Equations" and "Formulas For Jazz Guitar Improvisation".

20 minutes a day spent on the 28 high-endurance performance exercises will keep
your chops razor sharp and incredibly accurate! These exercises can easily be
implemented into your playing as classy sounding intros, endings, and
turnarounds. Steven also teaches his entire fingering system for the "jazz minor
scale" as well as a complete overview of chromatics and how to apply them to
your soloing! The "Play-Along" CD includes professionally recorded solos and
backing tracks to: "How High The Moon, A Foggy Day, Autumn Leaves, Stella By
Starlight, Sweet Georgia Brown, I've Got Rhythm, Summertime, Rhythm Changes,

Steven Crowell - Designated Speed Lines For Jazz Guitar - Book, CD & DVD
This 5th book in "The Jazz
Science Series" focuses on double-time target phrases that you "hone
till you own," perfecting them as you take your chops to a new level of
proficiency! More than just licks, this exciting book contains articulation
studies that can be applied to countless soloing situations. Moreover, they are
designed to fix any "meter problems," helping to develop a strong, accurate
sense of time. Part 1 begins with 23 powerful exercises. Dominant sequences are
shown in one and two bar phrases throughout all 12 keys. You'll learn how
changing just one note alters the tonal axis and changes chord functions which
are important insights for a jazz guitarist. Then follows a series of
"two-five-one" speed studies utilizing all 7 scale patterns in three variations
of each. Part 2 applies the double-time figures to the Blues format in four
different keys. If you've ever felt limited in your knowledge of what to play in
jazz blues, this chapter is full of fresh ideas and far-reaching possibilities.
Part 3 develops the material further, where pentatonic, whole-tones, harmonic
minor, and jazz minor as well as various substitutions are brought into play.
Chord progressions based on famous standards are used to demonstrate the speed
lines techniques. These include: "Bluesette, Cherokee, Joy Spring, I Love You,
and Autumn Leaves." The DVD contains 18 chapters with Steve taking you through
the entire book, playing all of the examples and explaining all of the theory.
The CD contains all of the solos played as written plus play-along rhythm
practice tracks. The book concludes with a concentrated study encompassing the ENTIRE fretboard!

Steven Crowell - The Jazz Guitar ExpressWay: Vol 1 - Book, CD & DVD
Solutions For Creative
Soloing. This is the 7th book in "The Jazz Science Series" and as its' name
suggests "The Jazz Guitar ExpressWay" merges power of expression with high-performance technique to get you to
your destination fast! As most readers know, the 84 Equations system is based on
seven interlocking scale patterns that cover the entire fretboard in all 12 keys.
Learning to use them effectively is therefore the key to greater improvisational
freedom. In a series of eleven in-depth lessons, this book focuses on just Pattern 4
in the key of C in order to reveal the full wealth of solo opportunities hidden within.
But what about the rest? Behind all seven scale patterns is a master fingering pattern
that is the same for all. Learn the master plan and you will never lose your way as
you change patterns while improvising! A chapter on the "Master-Plan Fingering Chart"
gives a helicopter view of the pattern. Then Steve continues to explore it in great detail
on the DVD, revealing new insights that appear here for the very first time! The CD contains
all of the solos played as written plus play-along rhythm practice tracks!

Steven Crowell - The Jazz Guitar ExpressWay: Vol 2 - Book, CD & DVD
A Roadmap To Improvisational Freedom. Here
in the 8th book of "The Jazz Science Series" you'll find the final mysteries revealed as we
take the seven scale patterns from a technical concept to a virtually unlimited "toy box" of
creative components! If the first 7 books are the building blocks of the system, "The Jazz
Guitar ExpressWay: Vol 2" is the "mortar" that holds everything together. We begin
with seven lessons that show how to extend Pattern 4 into Pattern 5. The lessons
build on one another, leading to seamless knowledge of all seven scale patterns.
Part of this comes through the "Fretboard Freedom Maps," a unique series of
concentrated studies for gaining prodigious chops and hard-wiring the dynamic
concepts of dominant-tonic, tension-release into your improvised lines. The
"Solos" section brings everything to an exciting conclusion by applying ExpressWay
concepts to popular jazz standards like: "Cherokee, There Will Never Be Another You, and
Sweet Georgia Brown". The CD contains all of the solos played as written plus play-along
rhythm practice tracks!

Steven Crowell - Mastering The Matrix - Book, CD & DVD
The Jazz Guitar Expressway Vol 3. This fascinating book
- the 9th in "The Jazz Science Series" - opens a missing musical dimension showing the tightly woven
array of sounds and fretboard shapes at the heart or "hub" of jazz guitar improvisation. The
Matrix is a "standalone" book or it can also be used as part of "The Jazz Science Series".
On the DVD, Steven Crowell takes you through the entire book playing each exercise and then explaining the theory
behind it. The Matrix contains many new, challenging, and even magical ideas. At the same time, it brings the
entire "Jazz Science Series" into sharper-than-ever focus. Master The Matrix and you will
discover a new sense of freedom that few guitarists ever experience. The "Solos" section brings everything
to an exciting conclusion by applying Matrix concepts to popular jazz standards like: "Autumn Leaves, Satin
Doll, and Melodic Blues In G". The CD contains all of the solos played as written and play-along rhythm practice
tracks!

Herb Ellis - Jazz Swing Guitar Legend
Compiled & Edited By
Steven Herron
Jazz swing guitar player
Herb Ellis like a great deal of other leading American jazz guitar performers
(such as Charlie Christian, Eddie Durham, and Oscar Moore) was born in the south
western part of the the USA. The blues, with a touch of country and western, are
a distinguishing characteristic of his jazz guitar sound and his guitar playing
approach. This is most surely due to the environment where Ellis was brought up.
Herb Ellis at first played music on the banjo, though it is mentioned that he
played the harmonica at 4 and started playing the guitar at the age of ten.
While he was in high school he played music on alto horn in the school band.
Ellis studied at the North Texas State College where he was introduced to and
befriended quite a number of now popularized jazz artists such as Jimmy Giuffre,
Gene Roland, and Harry Babasin.
Herb Ellis graduated in 1941 and joined Glen Gray's band. In
1945 he joined The Jimmy Dorsey Big Band touring and playing with them for 3
years. Following this, Ellis formed his own instrumental-vocal trio called "The Softwinds". That band, which included Lou Carter on Piano and Johnny Frigo on
bass, worked with each other for 5 years. Throughout that point in time Herb
authored a variety of popular songs which includes "Detour Ahead" and "I Told
You I Love You - Now Get Out".
Ellis's jazz guitar proficiency first became
acknowledged worldwide in 1953 when he took over from jazz guitarist Barney Kessel
in the Oscar Peterson Trio. There is no doubt that because of his five year stay
with Peterson, and his subsequent four years accompanying the famous jazz singer
Ella Fitzgerald, Ellis grew his musical capabilities as a soloist and
accompanist to the fullest. It is during this time that he additionally began a prolonged association and friendship with bass player Ray Brown.
